Description:
Plants have long been used in dyeing, but without binding chemicals, their color and health benefits fade quickly. This makes it unsuitable for mass production.
Solution: AIZOME ULTRA™ is a patented, ultrasound dyeing method that begins with only water, medicinal plants, and cotton. Creating textiles that have lasting color and health benefits — the process is simple, scalable, and sustainable.
Instead of synthetic chemicals, it uses a physical trick: ultrasound sets plant particles in motion at a custom frequency of 52.5kHz underwater, binding them to the fiber permanently. And with them, their color and health benefits.
AIZOME ULTRA™ gives wearables healing properties: bed sheets that help heal wounds, t-shirts that can soothe and reduce stress, underwear that can ease menstrual pain. “Healthcare you can wear” has expanded AIZOME’s product line with new possibilities.
AIZOME ULTRA™ is being scaled for a wide range of textile products in various sectors while increasing the palette of colors and health benefits through new plant dyes. In an industry that lacks transparency and accountability, AIZOME recently had their claim “Healthcare you can wear” cleared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, who certified AIZOME textiles as a “medical device” — a unique achievement for textiles.
AIZOME is changing the status quo of textile production through partnerships and the sharing of AIZOME ULTRA™ in various industries that use textile components.
The wastewater leftover from the process was found to retain the health benefits of the plant dyes and therefore has been used to irrigate fields. Further, the wastewater has also generated immense interest from the skincare industry, to be used as raw material for cosmetics.
Results: AIZOME ULTRA™ is validated by organizations such as the University of Cambridge, the National Eczema Association, and the FDA. Over 3,000 tons of fabric have been produced, benefitting 2.4 million people. AIZOME has received over 110 million impressions, with 46 new B2B partners in healthcare, fashion, hospitality as well as cosmetics.
