Description:
Medical technologies play a part in these failings, with devices such as common pulse oximeters, reported taking inaccurate, life threatening, readings from people with darker skin. Pulse Oximeters have a fatal flaw for black skin.
They have been proven to overestimate oxygen saturation levels in dark skin by up to 7%. This is the difference between getting life-saving oxygen and being sent home with a paracetamol.
Airquity, empowered by EarSwitch, is a non-invasive biometric sensor that records medical-grade, real-world, and racially inclusive health metrics from the inner ear canal. Where all skin looks the same and melanin can't affect the accuracy of the device.
Since launching Airquity, Earswitch has been accepted onto the Innovative Devices Access Pathway programme, a scheme that accelerates lifesaving medical devices into the NHS (Uk’S Healthcare system).
Airquity has the potential to prevent millions of black people from experiencing oxygen distress.
