Description:
The challenge is to be able to transport fresh eggs to inaccessible places like Janac Chuquibamba, a community located at 3,600 MASL.
A place with alarming malnutrition rates in Peru because of the lack of protein food (5 out 10 children suffer it).
Since we could not deliver eggs, we delivered laying hens. But not every hen survives naturally in the Andes conditions, let alone lays eggs. We trained a breed of white hen capable of surviving the extreme conditions of the Andes.
We adapt it to the diet available there and the climate to be able to produce eggs. All without genetic manipulation.
This idea brings a fresh, simple, and self-sustainable solution over time to reduce malnutrition in children living in the Peruvian Andes.
Andes Hens has been a successful program in Janac Chuquibamba, and in the main time is being scaled to other communities in the Andes of Peru.
To support the program, we designed a special egg packaging, so people in the city can help people in rural areas of the Andes. Each purchase means more hens for more communities. All first stock sold out within a few weeks.
