Description:
The Global Cooling Pledge aims to raise international cooperation, increase access to sustainable cooling, and limit the global average temperature rise to 1.5?.
At the COP28 summit, UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen highlighted the critical demand for better passive cooling methods.
The transport sector accounts for a quarter of global emissions, with vehicle air conditioning responsible for producing 420 million tonnes of CO2 annually.
As a leading automotive manufacturer committed to sustainable mobility, Hyundai has developed an innovative solution to tackle this issue: Nano Cooling Film, a transparent passive cooling film designed to significantly reduce the need for energy-intensive air conditioning in vehicles.
The Nano Cooling Film is composed of three layers that utilize advanced nanotechnology and quantum mechanics.
The outer and middle layers work to reflect incoming solar heat, while the inner layer absorbs interior heat and emits it externally. This groundbreaking design can lower the temperature inside a vehicle by up to 20?.
Hyundai first introduced the Nano Cooling Film in Lahore, Pakistan, where heat and pollution are extreme and traditional darker tinting films are illegal. We applied the film to cars, no matter their make or model, along with a ‘Made Cooler by Hyundai’ sticker inspired by Pakistani art. Hyundai plans to release the Nano Cooling Film to the public as a standalone product, compatible with any car model.
Additionally, it will be offered in future Genesis cars and Hyundai truck models.
If applied to all cars in Pakistan, the Nano Cooling Film has the potential to save up to 1 million tons of CO2 per year, a 7.3% reduction in vehicle carbon emissions. Hyundai hopes to release the Nano Cooling Film across the world, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change while enhancing comfort and efficiency for all drivers.
